New location of lights at pedestrian crossing is more dangerous.
Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 18:02, Wed 27 November 2024
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6793212.
As part of the A21 "safety improvements", the pedestrian crossing just north of the Johns Cross roundabout was moved closer to the roundabout. Any driver going round the roundabout has to be watching other traffic on the roundabout so is less able to be looking ahead onto the road they are turning on to. I am concerned drivers will not have time to react if a pedestrian is using the crossing. It was better where it was and I would like you to explain your reasoning and if you are monitoring the effects of this change.

Thank you for making your report.
We have asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue.
If any work is needed, they will arrange for this to happen. Should no immediate work be required we will continue to monitor this during our regular inspections.
Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
Kind Regards,
National Highways.
