No markings, locals disagree on how to approach, leading to dangerous situations

Reported via mobile in the Faded / Hard to see (NH) category anonymously at 21:06, Sat 23 November 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6774980.

The Watchorn roundabout does not have markings. From Swanwick into Alfreton, there are 2 lanes on, and 2 lanes off. The road into Alfreton was expanded many years back, changing it from 1 lane, to 2 lanes, however many locals refuse to acknowledge this change and so often cut people off or act aggressively towards those who are following the example of a 2 on 2 off roundabout from the Highway Code. There has been much online discourse in local groups, with people adamant that their interpretation is correct. Not too long ago, someone using the Alfreton Police SNT account, posted an annotated image of the roundabout with their idea of it's usage, which contradicts the Highway Code's example and aligns with how the Alfreton exit was used prior to it's expansion. Unfortunately, this diagram coming from a local police page has been used as justification by those who disagree with the Highway Code's example, with them resolving to stick to their way, cutting drivers off, potentially leading to a collision. Having discussed with police friends, they agree that the Alfreton Police SNT account overstepped in posting unofficial guidance and also disagreed with the guidance given, in favour of the standard Highway Code example. There is also the fact that this roundabout isn't just used by locals, meaning visitors would be more inclined to follow the Highway Code's example, potentially being cut off or faced with aggression from misinformed locals. I feel that until better signage or road markings are added, this will continue to be an issue and will potentially lead to an otherwise avoidable collision.
