Traffic Cones reducing lanes in rush hours

Reported via desktop in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 17:39, Wed 13 November 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6727971.

Unnecessary lane closure due to traffic cones blocking one of the two lanes on the only route into Gloucester and the M5 at the Highnam roundabout, where the A40 and A48 converge. This roundabout handles a substantial volume of traffic from the Forest of Dean, Ross-on-Wye, and Chepstow areas. Under normal conditions, rush hour travel to this roundabout from Churcham (just 1.5 miles) already takes 30+ minutes. Outside peak hours, this trip typically takes only 5 minutes, so the current delays of 1.5 hours being cause without any reason are beyond senseless.

The closure during rush hour is causing severe disruption, especially with no visible work being undertaken during any time throughout the day and especially at peak times. Despite multiple observations throughout the day, cones continue to block the lane with no apparent justification. This situation is both unacceptable and very poorly planned, especially given the current government crack down on disruptive streetworks. The lane needs to be reopened immediately ready for the morning rush hour (should i say 2 hours), Immediate investigation is warranted, and the responsible company should be reprimanded and fined to prevent further unnecessary inconvenience.
