Proper fix needed for damaged manhole

Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 11:16, Thu 31 October 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6679554.

Temporary cover and cones were placed as shown to cover big hole from destroyed manhole cover. Report was then closed - but the job is not done.

Needs a proper fix and the temporary cover and cones then to be removed. Report to stay open until this is done.

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report. We have asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue. If any work is needed, they will arrange for this to happen. Should no immediate work be required we will continue to monitor this during our regular inspections.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

  • Anyone walking near this - don't stand on it. The yellow cover has moved (people parking on it) and doesn't look at all safe. There's a big hole underneath.

  • Someone turned up with traffic lights on Wednesday, but the fix team never arrived so nothing done. Again -do not walk over this, it isn't safe.

  • Update from national highways 7 Jan - this is an Openreach asset, NH have been chasing but nothing has happened to complete the repair. Reported to Openreach by phone - 7 Jan , advised this is dangerous . Engineer will visit today... Openreach job ref 2616073958

  • Jan 7 evening - Openreach have visited, recognise it is dangerously slippery and have raised an urgent job for a proper fix, hopefully this week.

No job had been raised so it had been forgotten or closed in error.

  • Jan 9 - cover moved (pavement parking?) exposing the hole which is just filled with builders bags. Let's hope people look where they are going...

  • Still no action. Cover has moved again, pedestrian hazard.
