Over grown trees/bushes with stinging nettles etc

Reported via mobile in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category anonymously at 13:27, Wed 30 October 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6675956.

Trees are over grown over our property. Some trees were cut back at a property in the same road for a similar issue. However the cutting back of trees/bushes stopped at our property. Issues with falling concurs/acorns/small branches onto full garden area which can be dangerous with a young child. The alleyway running behind the house is overgrown with lots of stinging nettles and thorns which would be harmful for animals and small children. This is the issue for lots of properties that are in line with our property

  • Thank you for submitting this report.

You may prune unprotected trees and hedges overhanging your land, and the roots growing beneath your land, up to your boundary. You don't need our permission to do this.

We only take action when a tree causes a legal nuisance to neighbouring properties. This means a nuisance that is actionable in law. For example, when trees are actually touching buildings and causing direct damage. Our policy on tree management can be found using the following link - https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ our-work/ environment/ biodiversity/ trees-near-your-property/

The path mentioned behind your home is out of our maintenance boundary and therefore the responsibility of the local authority to maintain.
