Reported via desktop in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category anonymously at 15:21, Fri 4 October 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6552315.

Bridleway currently closed due to flooding and this vegetation is not native and causes all kinds of issues especially where flooding occurs.

Updates

  • Thank you for your email of 4 October 2024 about flooding causing the closure of a bridleway and non native vegetation near the M1 at Ossett. We understand your concerns and appreciate you taking the time to contact us about the issue.

After visiting the location, we can confirm the bridleway is well outside of our highway boundary and so is the stream where the non-native species (which we believe is balsam) are present. It would be the responsibility of your organisation, Wakefield Council.

However, we are aware of the flooding issue but are currently waiting on your Land Drainage & Flood Risk Management Team to undertake some works on your drainage system before we can proceed with our investigations.

Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
