Bridge railings damaged
Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 17:19, Fri 6 September 2024
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6444746.
Damage was caused to this bridge railings a week ago. You've closed one lane of the A64 causing absolute carnage at peak times with no work taking place. Traffic is backing up miles past any queue warning signs which is dangerous. Prioritise a fix please and warnings for queues further back to get drivers to slow down. Thanks.

Thank you for contacting us via FixMyStreet on 6 September 2024 about the A64 lane closure. We appreciate the time you’ve taken to contact us.
A recent incident occurred where an errant vehicle hit the parapet (barrier) at the side of the road. The damage caused means there's insufficient capacity in the barrier to fully protect the area should another similar incident occur.
The barrier is a bespoke asset and not one available from stock, therefore the replacement parts need to be made to order. We’re aiming to complete this work by the end of September.
The decision to close the lane wasn’t taken lightly as we understand the importance of this junction and how busy it is; however, we must put the safety of road users above all else. We hope you understand and thank you for your patience while this situation is ongoing.
