Post of sign rotten all the way through

Reported via desktop in the Damage to Sign (NH) category by Andrew Williams B.Sc. Psych. at 13:20, Wednesday 4 September 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6435483.

I performed a 'Sign Audit' for the town council a few months ago and found many dangerous issues.

One such issue is located on the right side of the A49, at the location of Crossways, Church Stretton, as heading south towards Craven Arms.

Sign ID: UL 236, A49, Area 9

This dangerous issue is a 'Public Information/Direction' sign whereby the base posts are rotten all the way through. This sign therefore is a danger to persons/pedestrians walking on the pavement, riders with horses, cyclists or motorists using the A49.

If a collision happens with a vehicle there will not be any strength in the post of this sign to remain in its position and therefore could injure the motorist, cyclists or persons/pedestrians or riders with horses.

Requires replace as soon as possible or dismantle please.

  • Thank you for making your report. We have asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue.

If any work is needed, they will arrange for this to happen. Should no immediate work be required we will continue to monitor this during our regular inspections.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

    Kind regards National Highways
