Cones in road for no reason

Reported via mobile in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 16:48, Thu 29 August 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6413409.

Traffic cones in the road for no reason whatsoever. No holes in road and no one ever working there. Coned off quarter of a mile up the A27 east bound. Causing near misses and severe aggression from driver's. Please let me know what is wrong with the road and why it is closed off. On top of that every other road coming from Worthing to lancing has road works on them again with no one working there. This is causing unnecessary congestion and emissions.

Updates

  • Following a collision on Monday 26 August a traffic light was damaged on the A27 eastbound carriageway between Worthing and Sompting. For safety reasons a section of lane 2 will remain closed until the light can be replaced.

We understand the congestion this causes but it would not be safe to reopen lane 2 as a large vehicle could obscure the remaining traffic light and a collision could occur.

Safety remains our priority and every effort is being made to carry out this work as soon as possible. We apologise for the impact this has on those living and working locally and continue to advise people travelling through the section to allow additional time for their journey.

    Kind regards
