Stuck on 60mph
Reported via mobile in the Electronic Sign (NH) category anonymously at 13:53, Mon 26 August 2024
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6399166.
I drive on the m62 between M6 northbound and Salford every single day and the signs seem to be stuck on 60mph in both directions. Even on days where there are barely any cars on the road it still says 60mph. It has been a few weeks where they have been set to 60 now for no apparent reason.

Thank you for contacting National Highways.
Speed was reduced to 60mph as a necessary safety measure. We’ve been upgrading the MIDAS radars which detect vehicle traffic flow.
Our installation was 75% complete when we discovered a software fault. To mitigate the risk of signs falsely setting, we set blanket 60mph signs along the route.
Reducing the speed limit to 60 mph would have a minimal impact on journey times. However, we are sorry for any inconvenience or delays to your journeys.
I’m pleased to tell you we believe we have repaired the software fault. Testing will take place later today. If successful, the reduced speed signs will be cleared. However, any speed limits displayed within a red circle must be complied with, even if the reason is not evident.
Kind regards
National Highways
