Part time signals never being on causing severe traffic backlog on Jct 5 Westbound exit

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 12:57, Fri 16 August 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6364430.

The traffic lights which are part time on the West bound exit from the M65 at Guide, Jct 5, are very rarely on. I usually exit the motorway here at rush hour, around 5.15/5.30 and am regularly waiting 10-15 minutes in standstill traffic on the slip road. I have just done the same thing at 12.45pm on a Friday and faced with the same issue. Traffic is backing up onto the main carriageway which is moving at normal speed and I believe this to be incredibly dangerous. Traffic moves fine at all other points on the Guide roundabout because of the flow of traffic and/or the lights being active. On the few occasions that the lights have been working on the W/B exit, I have had no issues leaving the motorway. Please consider having these lights on at all times because it is a serious safety issue for travellers. Cars are taking risks by cutting in from the Haslingden lane at the last minute and this is making things even worse, putting people on the roundabout at further risk of accident. I have just witnessed one such near miss. It is incredibly unsafe in its current state.

Updates

  • At around 06:45 the part-time signals on the roundabout not being utilised caused a dangerous backlog on the slip road and onto the motorway with stationary traffic being overtaken by vehicles travelling at 70/80 mph. Extremely dangerous. As also people who wanted to turn right were using the left lane and cutting people off on the roundabout a car doing so nearly crashed into me. Please address this before someone gets killed. This has happened numerous mornings and is a regular issue.
