Many street lights east of J20 don't work

Reported via desktop in the Not working (NH) category anonymously at 19:00, Tue 13 August 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6352424.

Hello, I'm just informing you that many but not all of the street lighting east of J20 on the main carriage way and the slip roads has failed. This busy area would benefit from a maintenance/electrical scheme which could see all lighting working again this upcoming winter. I would just like to add that the slip road that joins the M62 eastbound has all of its lighting working which means that they must have received some attention recently. Thanks for your time.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the streetlights.

We have switched lighting off on this stretch of road to support the Department of Transport’s aim to reduce carbon emissions. These roads have been carefully chosen with all road users safety considered.

We are still using road lighting where it is needed, however, we are confident that we can use less of it without a significant impact on safety. We will continue to monitor this and may restore the lighting if the situation changes.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
