Overgrown roundabout signage

Reported via desktop in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category anonymously at 16:23, Mon 5 August 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6318864.

The black and white hashed brick markings around the roundabout have been completely overgrown with vegetation and can no longer be seen. This is a safety hazard and the safety signage is no longer visible and could cause an accident if a foreign lorry driver were to approach this junction having left the port. Surely a jet wash or some weedkiller could be applied to remediate?

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

While we’re responsible for maintaining the roundabout, such as grass cutting to maintain clear sightlines and cleaning of signage, weeding the paving isn’t included in our routine maintenance programme.

We don’t use pesticides or weed killer on our roads, except for the treatment of invasive species such as Giant Hogweed, and working with a limited budget we have focus on addressing safety issues as a priority.

We have upcoming work to close the inner ring of the roundabout to conduct grass cutting for sightlines and clean signage which will improve this location for drivers.

    Kind regards,

    National Highways
