Litter everywhere

Reported via mobile in the Main Carriageway (NH) category anonymously at 21:04, Sunday 4 August 2024

FixMyStreet ref: 6315263.

Shocked at the amount of litter everywhere that has no been cut up into a thousands of pieces after your contractors came and cut all the verges. The mess created it awful. Plastic bollards shredded through, old traffic cones, tyres and car debris and general litter, cans, plastic bottles etc covering the verges.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about litter.

We have passed your report to our local inspector who will review the issue as part of their next safety inspection and arrange any remedial action.

Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, we’re responsible for collecting litter on England’s motorways and a few other strategic trunk roads. Local authorities are responsible for collecting litter on the remaining trunk and local roads, including the A47.

Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow. To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response.

    Kind regards
