40 MPH Speed Limit - Northbound

Reported via desktop in the Electronic Sign (NH) category anonymously at 15:46, Friday 26 July 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6280459.

For weeks now we have been subject to a 40 MPH limit Northbound. I travel northbound daily and see no evidence of an 'intermittent' problem and the tunnel lighting has been acceptable. Surely it is time to be pragmatic and reconsider if the 40 mph limit is still required. It really does seem this has always appeared to be an ill considered, hastily applied and over draconian restriction on the tunnel users.

Updates

  • Thank you for submitting this report.

We have been experiencing intermittent issues with the traffic signals at the tunnel. To ensure safety of the travelling public, we’ve had to implement a reduction to the speed limit whilst we work on rectifying the issue and undertake the necessary testing to ensure the system is stable. We expect this work to be completed by mid-August. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    Kind regards National Highways
