New footpath not usable

Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath issue (NH) category anonymously at 12:53, Thursday 18 July 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6245769.

There is a footpath that is “temporary” until 2027 that is 48hrs old and is already unusable by bicycles. The material used is too soft, like sand so the bike tyres dig in in the wet surface. The material used is clay like to it cakes up on the tyres clogging against mud guards and brake pads. The old footpath has been in place for a long time and it was the route for many commuters. Taking the A428 is not an alternative for bicycles and pedestrians. There is an urgent need for a new surface on the new footpath to allow commuters to move about urgently. Not everybody has a car and the local bus does not run at all times or frequently enough
