The entire bridge is rusted and decaying.

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 17:06, Tue 16 July 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6237537.

All the posts on the bridge are rusted and decaying. I fear that if the wind blew someone in to them they wouldn’t hold sufficiently or for that matter any other incident that could occur. This bridge sits directly above the m62 motorway, so increased risk of debris on the carriageway. The bridge has been in a decaying state for some time and something really needs to be done about it as safety is compromised for pedestrians.

Updates

  • Thank you for your email of 16 July 2024 about posts on the bridge over the M62 junction 24 being rusted and decaying. We understand your concerns and appreciate you taking the time to contact us about the issue.

Our assets are inspected at regular intervals and we're aware the parapets are deteriorated but there is no current safety risk posed by the condition of the parapets to pedestrians or customers on the M62 below.

There is however a scheme to replace the parapets which is due to complete this financial year, so by the end March 2025.

Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
