Info sign not in use

Reported via mobile in the Electronic Sign (NH) category anonymously at 13:50, Thu 11 July 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6217952.

Around 4 or 5 years ago several large pylon sign were erected alongside the westbound A38 in Plymouth at great expense and for a short while were used to warn us to prepare for Brexit. Occasionally since then they have carried road condition info. Recently they have ceased being used and are covered in Sign Not In Use signage. How can this be justified when they are located near a current A38 accident black spot through North Plymouth where collisions occur daily causing daily disruption. When are these signs returning to productive use in alerting drivers to the accident black spot and tackling this problem.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the information signs erected along the A38

Unfortunately the communications equipment required to connect it to the control room has failed, along with others around the country. The parts required to fix this are now obsolete.

This equipment is currently in design to be replaced with a new connection method that will interface the signs back to where they can be operated.

We don't currently have a timescale for this.

If you require any further information please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@nationalhighways.co.uk, or visit our website at www.nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
