40mph northbound A3 tunnel

Reported via desktop in the Electronic Sign (NH) category anonymously at 08:28, Tuesday 9 July 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6207040.

For the last couple of weeks the speed limit going northbound through the A3 tunnel is at 40mph. Why is this please? There seems to be no reason for the slower speed limit

  • Thank you for submitting this report

We have been experiencing intermittent problems with the north bound tunnel traffic light signal. When this happens, for safety reasons, the mitigation is to reduce the vehicle speed to 40mph via hard signage and on the portals on the approach to the tunnel. We’ve escalated this with our contractors and are expecting a technician to attend site this week to rectify the problem. Unfortunately, a timescale is not currently available. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Kind regards National Highways
