Unsuitable road surface

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 16:41, Sat 6 July 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6198280.

At start of this year entire length of this dual carriageway had tarmac surface removed and concrete sub base was given close centred recessed grooves longitudinal to road. I assumed these were to allow a new tarmac finish to be bonded onto it. This was February 2024. The road works finished with only drainage completed. Since then road surface very noisy and I have noticed abnormal increased wear to my cars tyres. As I have been regularly checking my tyre pressures and doing very limited mileage I can find no other obvious reason for my increased wear. Leading to 3 new tyres so far. I have MOT records to show wear.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways concerning the A30 at Longrock.

The retexturing works we’ve recently undertaken will extend the life of the Bypass. This is a recognised method of restoring the surface and performance of the concrete road which will benefit from a reduction in road noise, and fewer maintenance visits over the next 15 years. The works will have also improved safety by restoring the required skid resistance properties to the road surface. The work we've done has been designed and delivered in accordance with the requirements of the technical standards. Over the next 4 years we'll closely monitor the road to assess its performance, our first visit is planned to happen in the next few weeks.
