Danger to road users

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 12:01, Wed 3 July 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6186122.

We live on Lower Clicker Road, Menheniot and constantly hear near misses from our back garden. This means we are super-vigilant when cutting across the cross-roads on the A38 Menheniot junction. My husband was involved in a serious RTA on Monday due to how dangerous this crossing is, and was extremely lucky to walk away with minor injuries despite the road being closed for almost 3hrs and having to go to A&E for his injuries.

How many accidents, near misses and deaths need to take place on a stretch of road before something is done about how unsafe and dangerous this section of road is?

Living right at this junction, we are now scared to cross this section of road and feel something needs done now to address the issue.

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report. We're are sorry to hear of your husbands road traffic accident and hope he's OK.

We are aware of the concerns you have raised and have been working on studies / designs to improve the junction.

This financial year we have a scheme to improve the electronic signs at this junction which includes adding a new one to warn road users.

We are also working on safety proposals between Liskeard and the Terulefoot roundabout. However this is currently at the feasibility stage and we are not able to confirm when/if we will be able to deliver them.

We also have to consider other areas of the road network which also require improvement so we have to prioritise schemes accordingly.

We have been consulting with Cornwall Council about this study and we aim to do the same with Local members to ensure the measures are appropriate.

If you require any further information please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@nationalhighways.co.uk, or visit our website at www.nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
