Inability to join roundabout

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 16:43, Fri 28 June 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6168058.

Dear Team, I need to report that it can take 15-20 minutes to find a gap in traffic when waiting on the B3006 to get on to the A3 Ham Barn Roundabout, because of the continual stream of traffic which is unbroken, both north and south. This is worse at rush hours, but also weekends especially Sundays. There needs to be a traffic light to pause flow at busy periods. There used to be a break in traffic flow when the traffic was held at lights at Hindhead, but because of the tunnel there is now a constant flow of traffic, preventing access from B3006 either from Greatham or from Liss. In addition, there is no easy public walking access into Greatham from Liss, meaning that to walk my dog I have to dart across two double lanes of fast flowing A3 traffic. The A3 traffic continues across the roundabout without pausing, so I can’t even walk between stationary traffic to get across. I have seen cyclists, walkers and a wheelchair user trying to cross the lanes - it is extremely hazardous. Since I have been staying near the roundabout I have seen two serious accidents where waiting cars on the B3006 have misjudged trying to access the roundabout between the constant flow of traffic from Hindhead - and have been hit as they tried to join. Please can you give consideration to monitoring this issue with a view to making traffic pause, either at busy times or with lights triggered by waiting traffic on the B3006? Many thanks if you can.
