Dead cat at the side of lane 1

Reported via mobile in the Off the carriageway (NH) category anonymously at 10:58, Fri 28 June 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6166286.

Noticed what looked like a dead cat on the A14 just under the bridge that runs over the top of A14. It is to the side of the left hand lane. Please, please, please if it is a cat, can you take it to be scanned for a microchip at a vets? Even if it’s in poor condition, they may likely be able to get a microchip if it has one. I wanted to stop myself and get it, but it is too dangerous. It is just before the little slip road you can turn off near Rougham nurseries (heading towards Bury from Stowmarket).

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on our network.

Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.

Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification.

Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they will be removed if they are considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.

Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.

    Kind regards National Highways
