Exit to Shortlanesend

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 20:37, Mon 24 June 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6149331.

Coming back from Bodmin have found that there is no exit to short lanesend. I now have to travel an extra 4.6 miles by driving past my (previous) exit to queue at the roundabout to then go back the other way in order to get off the A30. The other option is to go through Truro and queue up in that traffic. More petrol, more congestion, more time. How is this new road helping the people who live in the Truro area. We have had nothing but disruptions for over two years only to find that we are still inconvenienced. You should have also kept the west bound slip road from Truro to Redruth on A30. People heading west after work are constantly having to queue. All you have done is benefit the tourists

  • I agree with this ; there is plenty of scope to add an off ramp to the new double rounds at this point. This is now clogging up the urban routes even more. I thought there was an alieviation strategy for the area surrounding Treliske hospital onto the a30 but this clearly is adding more pressure to this route! Can we have a public consultation on this please?

  • Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for contacting National Highways on 24 June regarding the changes at Chybucca junction in relation to the new dual carriage.

We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. During the early planning stages of the A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross scheme, we conducted extensive traffic modelling to determine the most effective road and junction layouts.

After a non-statutory consultation in 2016, we reviewed the provision of east-facing slip roads (westbound access from the new A30 and eastbound access to the new Chybucca junction). The results indicated that these slip roads were not justified based on the traffic flow data, as most vehicles accessing the old A30 at Chybucca were heading west, towards Chiverton Cross.

Considering the importance of ensuring value for money, there was no clear justification to allocate additional public funds for extra slip roads and the necessary land acquisition. Therefore, the design included only west-facing slip roads. This design was presented during the statutory consultation, submitted in 2018, and approved in 2020 via the Development Consent Order process. You can find out more about this process by following this link - https://national-infrastructure-consenting.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/ projects/ TR010026 .

The currently closed section of the old A30, now designated as the B3288, is expected to remain closed until December 2024. The road is scheduled for realignment under Tolgroggan Bridge and resurfacing, which is planned for late November to early December.

Additionally, the western section of the old A30, which is still closed at Marazanvose due to the completion of the new Green Bridge, is also on track to be completed and resurfaced by late November to early December. It is anticipated that the Green Bridge will be finished before these dates.

Residents wanting to access Shortlanesend can either exit at the new Carland Cross junction and follow the old A30 through Zelah, St Freda and onto Shortanesend, travel to the Chiverton junction and head back east and exit at the new Chybucca junction or travel through Truro via the A39.

We also want to highlight that after the re-alignment, the old A30 will be changed from a major road to a local road, ensuring that all previous routes are still accessible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period of roadworks and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Our goal is to enhance the overall road infrastructure for everyone, including year-round commuters and tourists alike.

If you require general updates on the A30, please visit our scheme website. If you would like to contact the scheme for more information, you can email A30ChivertontoCarlandCross@nationalhighways.co.uk or call 0300 123 5000.
