Overgrown footpath & blockage caused by weeds
Reported via mobile in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 15:57, Thu 20 June 2024
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6133526.
The entire length of the footpath is heavily overgrown on both sides of the mile long footpath & is hardly ever maintained by you. There are cracks in the surface where huge weeds are growing & parts are totally covered due to lack of care. The path is often used by cyclists since the actual road itself is far too dangerous to cycle on. Yesterday, some large weeds got caught up in my pedal & wheel which resulted in me almost falling off my bike & into the oncoming traffic. You beed to both cut the verges on BOTH SIDES of the path & weedkiller & fix the worsening cracks. If I have an accident due to poor maintenance then I shall hold you personally responsible for any accident I or anybody else suffers as a result of negligence. I have reported this issue several times but it is mostly ignored & brushed under the carpet. The problem is ongoing & should be sorted more frequently. Although the verge is cut occasionally (once a year is NOT enough btw), the cracks are completely ignored.

Using this footpath is still highly hazardous. The huge weeds growing out of the cracks are particularly dangerous. The worst area is about halfway along & there are parts where the entire path is hidden by weeds. I consider my complaint to be high priority before someone gets hurt due to untangling in the weeds. This area is always neglected & thw actual carriageway is far too dangerous for cyclists & pedestrians.

Thank you for making your report. We asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue. They have raised work for the vegetation to be cut back and removed.
Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
Kind regards National Highways
