Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category by Tony Fry at 10:34, Thu 20 June 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6131698.

Extremely poor surfaces in central lane., extremely dangerous for motorcyclists, could dismount. Traffic swerving to avoid as its been like this for 4-5 months. Why this has not been fixed is a disgrace.

Updates

  • We are aware of defects in the carriageway at this location. Please be assured we’ve been monitoring the area closely. The potholes here are quite shallow and temporary repairs would not be effective. When temporary repairs are made to shallow potholes the materials quickly fall out as traffic passes over.

I’m pleased to tell you we will be resurfacing the road here. Initially, work was planned for later this year, however we are bringing the scheme forward and expect to complete the work in June. We're sure when the resurfacing works have been completed, you'll notice the improvement and your journeys here will be smoother.

Safety is our highest priority, and we want all our road users to travel safely on our network. Our inspectors carry out weekly checks of the M60 to identify hazardous or safety critical defects (potholes). These are undertaken alongside reactive inspections when defect reports are received.

Potholes are risk assessed using criteria which includes checking the depth and location to ascertain if the defect is hazardous. If any hazardous defects are identified before the area is resurfaced, we’ll make temporary repairs as needed.
