Overgrown narrow pathway alongside A38

Reported via mobile in the Pavement/footpath issue (NH) category anonymously at 17:19, Thursday 6 June 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6074036.

I cycled to the NMA this morning and was somewhat disappointed that the only really safe and recommended walk or cycle way along the Alrewas A38 southbound (I’m not prepared to risk my life using the new staggered crossing by Leavesley’s garage) was overgrown to the point of being dangerous.

I support no-mow May but only when it doesn’t make life dangerous. For a cyclist, it’s not just the tall grass but the thistles, nettles, brambles and saplings which are more challenging. The footpath is less than 2 feet wide in places due to the overgrowth.

With there being no crash barrier for the majority of the length and the very narrow path size, it is very difficult to distance yourself from the backdraft of the passing large vehicles.

Do hope the pathway can receive some attention from Highways.

Look forward to hearing from you.
