Worn markings

Reported via desktop in the Faded / Hard to see (NH) category by Piers Williams at 12:52, Thu 23 May 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6011386.

Dear Paul

I write as a Parish Councillor for Wylye.

The link road from the A36 to allow traffic to join the A303 (both flows of traffic going westward) has been a concern for some time.

I attach photographs, a rather poor map and details of concerns.

DETAILS OF CONCERNS

1. Traffic coming from Wilton on the A36 dual carriageway wanting to join the A303 is meant to be speed limited to 60 mph.

2. Traffic coming from Warminster on the A36 are similarly unrestricted but they do have right of way over traffic coming from the Wilton direction.

3. The turning left into Wylye from the link road is signed but for some reason drivers attempting to join the A303 do not understand why anyone would be stupid enough to slow down to turn left.

4. Similarly drivers coming out of Wylye and wanting to rurn right have to contend with traffic that is accelerating to join the A303.

5. I am aware that there have not been any fatal accidents at the Wylye junction.

6. However, you will notice that the road markings and signeage are worn and especially inadequate at the point where the two “link” roads from the A36 merge.

REQUESTED ACTIONS

I would respectfully request that the following remedial actions are taken:

1. All road markings are “patched up” and repainted as soon as possible especially at Point C and on the road between A and C

2. A review of all signage is conducted asap and remedial action taken. A “Traffic Merging from Left” and a “Give Way” sign at the very least are positioned at the point of merger Point C.

3. The possibility of reducing the slip road from the A36 from dual carriageway to single carriageway is considered. Point A

4. Trimming of trees, hedges and roadsides is carried out as soon as possible. This will at least allow people to see the junction to and from Wylye. Point D

5. Consideration is given to restricting the speed limit between points C and D

I am only too aware that if there was a fatal accident people would be falling over themselves to ensure that it never happened again. It seems such a pity that it takes a death to get simple actions taken.

Yours sincerelyIMG_0724.jpegIMG_0728.jpegIMG_0734.jpegIMG_0735.jpegIMG_0738.jpegIMG_0739.jpegIMG_0733.jpeg
