Cones blocking the 1st lane westbound. Must have been forgotten about.

Reported via mobile in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 19:02, Wed 22 May 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6008603.

The equipment blocking the 1st lane between Brocklesby junction and Barnetby top on the A180 must have been forgotten about. For the past 6 weeks (this is a conservative estimate probably more than 6 weeks) the 1st lane has been closed I can only presume due to the absolutely appalling road surface being unsafe to drive on. So far throughout all of the time then road works have been erected I’ve not seen a single thing change. The signs say it is closed for ‘safety’. If the road surface is so bad it’s unsafe to drive on why on earth is nothing being done about it. Closing the lane does not solve the problem. Now there is 20 minute tailbacks morning and night for absolutely no reason what so ever. Why close the lane if you have no plans on carrying out any maintenance. Also the 2nd lane is becoming almost as bad as the 1st one in areas.

Look forward to hearing back from someone regarding this issue. I do hope to be enlightened as to what the logic is behind this nuisance.

  • Dear Customer

Thank you for your report regarding the lane closure on the A180 Westbound between Brocklesby and Barnetby

Following a carriageway inspection, it was identified that some of the bays on the westbound carriageway were showing signs of deterioration, resulting in potholes within the concrete bays together with slight movement of the bays resulting in a small ‘step’ between bays. As a result of these defects, it has been necessary to establish the lane 1 closure that is currently in place, to ensure the carriageway is safe to be trafficked.

We have been working over night to during the last 2 weeks undertaking minor repairs and preparing for the main reconstruction works that will commence over the weekends of 1 June and 7 June 2024.

From Friday 31 May 2024, the A180 westbound will be closed between Brocklesby and Barnetby from 20.00hrs until Monday 05.00hrs Monday 3 June and then the following weekend, 20.00hrs Friday 7 June 05.00hrs until Monday 10 June 2024. During this time we will be excavating and replacing the affected bays.

We are planning further major works to commencing in October 2024 to address further defects on both the east and westbound carriageways at this location, however, as a result of the recent deterioration, this interim intervention has been required.

I trust this answers your concerns. If you have further questions regarding the works or if there is anything else we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
