Road under bridge dangerously flooded again

Reported via desktop in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 22:35, Tue 21 May 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6004173.

Another day of rain, more dangerous flooding under bridge due to works on A12. PLEASE GET THIS SORTED ASAP! Photos taken several hours ago, will be much worse in morning with all night rain planned.

The road under the A12 bridge on Turkey Cock Lane CO3 8ND now always floods heavily with a heavy downpour (it is currently flooded) - this never use to happen and has only begun since the works on the A12 so presumably drains are blocked with roadwork material etc.

When this floods bikes cannot pass (which is how I take my son to school) and it gets deep enough that some cars turn around while others wait to drive through the middle.

Furthermore there has been what looks like a large orange power cable (it may not be) hanging under one side of the bridge. This does not seem safe.

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report regarding the flooding at Turkey Cock lane.

Our engineers have investigated and are agreed that the concrete road scheme on the A12 is not causing the flooding in Turkey Cock lane. The Bridge deck works have not started and drainage from the bridge deck therefore remains unchanged.

It seems likely that the flooding is as a result of a local drainage issue. Please contact your local authority to resolve this issue.

    Kind regards National Highways
