Vegetation and waste on the A14 Orwell Bridge Pedestrian access

Reported via mobile in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 12:11, Tue 21 May 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6001485.

On the A14 Orwell Bridge, there is Vegetation and waste on the Pedestrian access route and this has been there for some time. Baburgh & Mid Suffolk council and Suffolk council advise that this is not there responsibility but a highways issue. There seems to be no one who is taking responsibility. Please can you ensure that this is actioned as this is a health & safety issue

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report regarding the overgrown vegetation and litter on the Orwell bridge. We are currently sweeping both pathways and clearing gullies on the bridge. This started on the 21 May and will take 3 days to complete. Any litter on the paths should be collected by the sweeper, however, responsibility for litter picking on the A14 is, and remains the responsibility of the local authority.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

    Kind regards National Highways
