The strange process of not litter picking for over 6 months, then grass cutting - but not litter picking - has started again. So now there is grass all over the carriageway and tons of shredded litter! We get given the same excuses from Highways for not litter picking - can't disrupt the flow of traffic, too expensive to shut the carriageway etc however you then cut the grass without shutting the highways, but don't have a team litter picking at the same time. Therefore that is one team, one safety vehicle and done! Two jobs, one hit. No....you like to do it once, then a few months later do it again - costing us twice? When is this badly cut stretch of highway being litter picked since you didn't do it this time? I was also told that all of this would be litter picked April / May - you have two weeks left of May and you just wasted a ton of money not litter picking as you strimmed.

Thank you for contacting National Highways about litter and grass cutting.
We tried to contact you by telephone to discuss your query but were unfortunately unable to speak to you.
Littering by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can. Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people.
A sight line cut was carried out in April which was to give our customers better visibility of the network and its assets and a litter pick was carried out on the Interchange.
There is a litter pick planned for May for the main line. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you require any further assistance.
Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.
Kind regards
