Electronic advertising message board

Reported via mobile in the Electronic Sign (NH) category anonymously at 23:23, Tue 14 May 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5974717.

There is an electronic message board for advertisements approx P6/8B that majorly flashes at 15/20sec intervals on both sides of the board, it’s very distracting and causes multiple vehicles to slow thinking it’s a speed camera.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

I’m sorry for the issues you are experiencing with these signs. Neon or LED advertisements next to the strategic road network (SRN), like any other advertisement hoardings, are subject to advanced planning approval by the relevant local planning authority. Though adjacent to the SRN, these signs are located on private land and National Highways have no authority to refuse permission for their installation. Their use and what is displayed is not the responsibility of National Highways.

As a consultee in the planning process, National Highways have previously provided comments about advertising applications, including about the location and luminescence of digital advertising. However, the final decision lies with the local planning authority.

If you're concerned about them, you should contact the local planning authority.

    Thank you
