Queuing due to traffic lights

I have used this junction for 40 years and never ever had a delay at this roundabout unless there's a broken down vehicle etc. in the last 2-3 weeks all of a sudden there is horrendous queues, lasting 20 mins just to get through the junction, this is adding an unnecessary 20 minutes into my 1 hour commute to work. What is going on? There must be an issue with the traffic lights, I can't understand what else has changed and what is creating these queues. Please fix it, the traffic hasn't changed overnight!

Thank you for your email of 14 May 2024 about the recent change in the traffic light sequence on the M180 roundabout near Hatfield. We appreciate the time taken to get in touch with us regarding this.
There were two traffic signal controller units at junction which were obsolete. We would be unable to procure spare parts should the units fail; therefore, we’ve replaced them. The work began on 23 April 2024 and was completed on 26 April 2024.
It appears that during the process of changing the controllers, there has been an impact on congestion. Our engineers did make some alterations to the timings of the traffic signals on 1 May 2024 which should've improved journey times.
However, whilst we've replaced the controllers, we have now also reviewed the mode of control of the junction and have found some of the current detection is faulty. The normal mode of control used is called MOVA (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation). This is the signal control strategy researched and developed by the Transport Research Laboratory for use at isolated and uncoordinated road traffic intersections.
MOVA caters for all traffic conditions from very low flows through to a junction that is overloaded. MOVA is also able to operate at a wide range of junctions. For non-overloaded junctions, MOVA minimises delay. If any approach becomes overloaded, a capacity maximising procedure is used. This work is due to be carried out week commencing the 13 May 2024.
After these works are completed, the junction should be operating to its full capacity and provide a much smoother journey for our customers. Thank you again for contacting us.
