Overgrowth obscuring view on roundabouts

Reported via desktop in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category anonymously at 16:21, Monday 13 May 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5968038.

I would like to bring to your attention the problem posed to traffic as a result of not cutting down the greenery on the roundabouts on the A31 at St Leonards.

The height of the uncut greenery at this time of year, makes it increasingly difficult to see a vehicle indicating turning around the roundabout from the southbound A31 either to access Woolsbridge Road or join the northbound carriageway. From Woolsbridge Road this is particularly difficult when sitting in a car with a low view across the roundabout, which is up a slope, to gain the A31 wanting to turn right onto the roundabout towards Ferndown. The fast moving traffic on the A31 approaching the roundabout towards Ringwood is often reluctant to slow down making it even more of a problem to get out onto the roundabout safely.

The problem is similar, but not in the same way, when approaching Azalea and Boundary Lane roundabouts. With the large volume of traffic and increased speed and acceleration, particularly of electric cars, at roundabouts and junctions surely it makes sense to make vision a priority for safety over the cost of not cutting down these important areas.
