Parallel cuts in concrete road surface

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 13:17, Wed 8 May 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5946313.

There have been roadworks there for months. They have put saw cuts in the surface of the concrete road surface. These are extremely dangerous for motor cyclists, particularly when wet. The cuts tend to pull the motor bike from side to side, even at very low speeds. I was driving a light weight 125cc Honda along the road and had to slow to less than 20mph. It is noted that 50 mph signs are left AFTER the work seems to be finished. But I really believe the road now needs closing and the ruined concrete simply ripped and replaced. The work and inconvenience has been a total waste of money. I predict DEATHS will be caused, particularly for motor cyclists, although I also observe small cars are having the same problem - CLOSE the road NOW and SAVE a Life.

  • Thank you for making your report. We've asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue.

If any work is needed, they'll arrange for this to happen. Should no immediate work be required we'll continue to monitor this during our regular inspections.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
