Updates

  • I have just been and checked the area as was told on the phone that this huge pile of rubbish would definitely be collected in 10 days. It is all still there.

  • Thank you for your emails of 27 April and 7 May 2024 about a large amount of bagged waste on the M62, Gilberdyke. We understand your concerns and appreciate you taking the time to contact us about the issue.

We share your concern about litter on our network. It’s a huge challenge to keep roads free of litter and debris, but one we strive to achieve on a daily basis. Lives can be put at risk due to litter, as it can’t be collected on many roads without closing lanes and installing and removing traffic management, which can be hazardous for our operatives.

Our overall approach to litter on our network is set out in our litter strategy which can be found via https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ our-work/ environment/ litter-on-motorways-and-major-a-roads/ . We also work with various local authorities in order to better coordinate the removal of litter and anti-litter organisations which aim to tackle litter at source and make litter socially unacceptable.

We've checked with our maintenance team and can confirm we're working with the local authority to clear this fly tipped waste as soon as possible.

Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.
