Lane marker reflectors littering and producing micro plastics

Reported via desktop in the Old Roadworks Equipment (NH) category anonymously at 09:10, Friday 26 April 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5901010.

Many of the nearly useless temporary lane marker reflectors have broken from their places and hundreds of them are littering the M5 and hard shoulder. they are constantly being broken up producing even more plastics and micro plastics that are going into the ecosystem. These markers look unfit for purpose and hundreds if not thousands are now littering the carrigeway. Why not use bright yellow paint to mark the temporary lanes instead? like they do in europe? Will you please clean them up, i would see this as fly tipping.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the redundant traffic management equipment. We will arrange for one of our local inspectors to investigate this. Where we have identified redundant equipment, this will be removed. However, in some cases we do leave items in place for future use. Some isolated cones may also be in place for a specific purpose that may not be clear to passing vehicles. Kind regards National Highways
