Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for making contact on Friday 12 April, regarding your query around the M25 junction 28 improvement scheme.
I would like to start by thanking you for your patience and advise that we carefully considered several options when planning the project, including the current M25 entry slip road lane closure. We discussed the closure at length with our planning team, as well as representatives from TFL, Connect Plus, Essex County Council, Brentwood Borough Council, Havering Borough Council and the emergency services with whom we continue to coordinate with.
Following these discussions, the consensus was that the slip road lane closure is the best and safest option for conducting these works, for both our workforce and the travelling public. We do, however, appreciate your frustration and recognise there will be some disruption in the area.
By selecting the lane closure option on the slip road, we will effectively be able to construct the new dedicated slip road which is up to 6 metres lower than the existing carriageway. The lane closure also means we do not need to have a full prolonged closure of the M25 entry slip road, which was one of the options been considered. It was therefore decided that this option would be less disruptive overall for businesses, residents, the emergency services and the travelling public. The lane closure will remain in place until early 2025 when the new slip road will become fully operational.
We will keep our traffic management under constant review and are currently discussing options with Connect Plus to see if there is any further mitigation we can put in place to alleviate congestion at peak times. We have passed your comments on to our Traffic Management Manager, who has regular meetings with Connect Plus who are responsible for the roundabout.
We would like to thank you again for your ongoing patience.
