Dangerous pedestrian crossing

Reported via mobile in the Pavement/footpath issue (NH) category anonymously at 19:09, Saturday 23 March 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5757540.

Road crossing over the A38 which is grotesquely dangerous. I have also noticed half a dozen other crossings on this stretch of 70mph dual carriageway. There are no road signs to warn drivers that these are there. I tried to use the crossing once, but spending several minutes watching the speed and density of traffic, I decided that trying to cross would mean almost certain death (and probably a multi car pile up) and took a half hour diversion to cross a bridge. Thankfully, the crossings seem to be very rarely used. If they are not going to be removed, at the very least warning signs for drivers and a lower speed limit should be imposed.
