There is a scheme to replace the luminaires (street lights) on this section of the M5 which you’ve highlighted. Although it sounds like a simple task, the scheme requires lots of testing and visual surveys as the lighting columns are more than 25 years old. Our engineers will carry out an assessment to make sure the lighting columns are structurally sound and can take the weight of the new LED luminaires, particular those on the Avonmouth Bridge. We're sorry as this scheme has been delayed, and the work is now planned for spring/summer 2024. That said, it depends on the outcome of the surveys, if structural sign-off is achieved, and road-space availability.
