Traffic light does not work for motorcycle

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category by Amy Thorpe at 09:43, Thu 7 March 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5680136.

When waiting for the lights to change exiting Lydden to travel coastbound to Dover, the lights do not change when on a motorcycle. They are permanently stuck on red when waiting at these lights to cross the A2 carriageway on a motorcycle. Traffic lights allow you to cross 4 lanes of traffic across the A2.

It will only change for a car or heavier vehicle. This is extremely dangerous for motorcyclists on a very dangerous stretch of road.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

The signals at this junction won’t change if it doesn’t recognise traffic, and it appears the sensor loops are failing to recognise motorcycles.

We’ve tasked our team to investigate and to look at increasing the sensitivity to the sensory loops to help pick up motorcycles.

Whilst we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales can vary depending on the complexity of work required to rectify the issue.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
