Poor footpath quality

Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath issue (NH) category anonymously at 11:59, Tuesday 5 March 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5670763.

This footpath is the only access for residents from the north down to the leisure centre, school, skate park etc. It has been reported to me (in my role as a general election candidate) that it is in a poor state of repair and that eg people with mobility scooters and buggies cannot use it. I understand that it is also frequently overgrown. Please can you 1) confirm who is responsible for a) the footpath surface and b) cutting back the vegetation; and 2) if as I understand it is is National Highways that is responsible for the footpath surface, please could you let me know your plans and timescale for improving the surface to make it a safe and useable path? I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks and best wishes, Ellie

  • Thank you for making your report. We asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue. The footway is in reasonable conditions but with some narrowing in part due to the hedgerows. We've raised 2 patch repairs of the footway adjacent to Holmer academy to improve the surface, we don't have a timescale for this work. From Holmer academy to the allotments the hedgerows belong to the local authority and from the allotments to starting gate roundabout belong to the hotel and pub. All parties will be officially notified by us so the hedgerows can be cut back. You can also notify the local authority yourselves if you'd like.

We will continue to monitor this during our regular inspections.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

    Kind regards National Highways
