Drainage issues caused by A1 roadworks causing issues with stones and flooding on Lamesley Road

Reported via desktop in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 11:21, Tuesday 5 March 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5670498.

The ongoing roadworks to widen the A1 near the Low Eighton roundabout near Birtley is causing flooding and debris issues to Lamesley road. Water is being redirected as a result of the roadworks down a track that runs parallel to Lamesley road. This has cut a deep channel down the centre of the track and as a result whenever there is rain, water gushes down this track bringing with it a significant amount of debris and stones that are washed onto Lamesley Road. This makes Lamesley Road treacherous to drive down. This has been reported previously to a number of parties and we have been advised that this a national highways issue and you are resolving it. These issues have been ongoing since October and have still not been resolved. Please can you advise on action taken to date and the timeframe for this to be resolved and confirmation that the track will also have remedial works on it to restore it to how it was (as this is a popular walking route). Thank you.
