Traffic light sequence

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 13:41, Thu 22 February 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5615418.

The traffic lights at the new skipool junction on mains lane are not on green long enough to allow traffic to flow. Traffic build up on mains lane which has a knock on effect to shard bridge as when the lights at shard bridge junction turn green 1-2 cars only get through onto mains lane if turning right so this then causes long queues and delays for traffic into Hambleton village. It took an hour to drive over the bridge this morning. Traffic was fine Mon Tues and Wed but today something has changed with the light sequence causing this problem. It needs to be deal with as this is ridiculous and has been an on going problem since the start of the by pass work in 2020.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report on 22 February regarding the A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool project.

We apologise for any delays or inconvenience caused on Shard Road and Mains Lane last week. As soon as we became aware of the issue, we worked immediately to resolve it and changed the traffic light timings.

On Wednesday 21 February 2024 we finished the installation and testing of the permanent traffic lights at Skippool Bridge junction which are working on a timed system until we finish the installation and testing of traffic detectors under the road surface, due to be completed this week.

Once the traffic detectors are completed, the lights will be more intuitive and will react to the traffic flows, altering the timings of the lights accordingly without the need for manual intervention or monitoring.

Our technicians manually altered the timing of the lights on 22 February to allow traffic to run more smoothly. The lights will continue to be monitored during peak periods and if required, any further adjustments will be made until the system is finalised this week.

Your patience and understanding during this phase of work are greatly appreciated.

If you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

    Kind regards,

The A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool project.
