Poor lighting M62 Jct 20 to 22 East and West bound
Reported via desktop in the Not working (NH) category anonymously at 08:29, Tue 20 February 2024
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5602787.
The lighting in parts is not working and road markings are poor.
I have reported this problem previously and it would appear its too bigger job to fix in the short term.
I have now spent two winters with these conditions.
The stretch is notoriously bad in the weather and in heavy rain conditions (often) visibility is terrible.
Please can priority be given to this area please.
Thank you.
Updates
-
The lighting at this location has been switched off to meet our legal obligations and ensure safety due to significant electrical and/or structural failures.
This is to facilitate the disconnection of failed mainline lighting circuits and identify any slip road remedial interventions required, this will ensure the lighting stock on the Strategic Road Network conforms to industry standards and current guidance.
We're monitoring nationally provided accident statistical data (Stats 19) that determine the future options for all our routes regionally. The assessment of this data and associated whole life costs assists us in prioritising a forward programme in line with available funding.
You may be interested to know only 30% of our total network is currently lit, and between 40-50% of motorways specifically. Motorway safety is not a static environment and safety hazards can change with time. We’re still using road lighting where it is needed, such as junctions and slip roads. However, we’re confident we can use less of it to help us support the aims of the Department for Transport without a significant impact on safety for road users.
Kind regards, National Highways
