Steps closed again

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5576762.

The steps were opened last month and have been in use up until yesterday. The owners of the house next to the steps have told me highways have chained and locked the gate ?

Can you please confirm highways chained and locked the gate and not themselves. Although this is a footpath they’ve informed me that they don’t like people using it.

    This gate and straps have been closed since 2019.

    The wooden uprights to the step are rotten and are breaking underneath the weight of pedestrians, therefore the steps are not safe for use.

    National Highways are currently in the process of arranging repair works.

    The gate will remain padlocked until the steps are fit for purpose.
