  • Thank you for your email regarding litter on the A249. FM Conway Ltd are the Operation and Maintenance Contractor for the A249 for Sheppey Route Ltd (the Design, Build, Finance and Operate Co) on behalf of National Highways on the A249. We maintain the A249 between the M2 Junction 5 roundabout and the Sheerness Docks roundabout. We acknowledge your frustrations regarding the litter along the A249, as I am sure you are aware, litter is an ongoing anti-social issue. Having said that, we can confirm that litter along the A249 Trunk road are cleaned, when safe to do so, on planned closures on the network. We carry out daily debris patrols, removing debris from the live carriageway and verges, these patrols also highlight any areas of litter accumulation. We also utilise all road closures carried out during night-time hours and bring in extra resources to try and keep the network clean. We have 6 planned night closures starting this evening (12th February). Drainage works and litter picking will be done both Northbound and Southbound between Key Street and Wormdale overbridge and along the entry and exit slips along this stretch of the A249. We would like to thank you again for contacting us about this matter.
