Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5536361.

Going over the new bridge part of a1 heading to team valley, there is a massive pot hole in slow Lane, no lights to see it until last minute, being in a lowerd car is not ideal. This pot hole can not be avoided.

Thank you for your report on the National Highways Fix My Steet website on 5 February 2024 regarding a pothole in lane 1 of the A1 heading towards Team Valley. Thank you for reporting this pothole on the A1 Birtley to Coal House scheme. We have an onsite Traffic Safety Control Officer (TSCO), who patrols the scheme and its diversion routes regularly both during the day and night. Part of their duty is to monitor the condition of the surface to ensure that any defects are reported and filled as soon as possible. Our Incident Support Unit (ISU) team then temporarily repair any smaller carriageway defects as they have been reported. Please be advised that we have upcoming planned closures for overnight patching repair works on Monday 19 February 2024 (southbound carriageway). These closures will enable the team to repair the carriageway defects with a more permanent solution until the full resurfacing plans commence later this year.
