Signs missing

Reported via desktop in the Damage to Sign (NH) category anonymously at 19:43, Sun 28 January 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5502678.

Previously there have been signs for the reduced speed limit on the central reservation as well as the left hand side of the road. This at the entrance to the roadworks travelling west. These are now missing. They have always been misleading, stating 'Roadworks 1 mile' with an immediate reduction in speed to 50. If you are now in the right hand / middle lane and there are trucks in the inside lane easy to miss the speed limits, resulting in drivers slamming on the brakes

Updates

  • Thank you for your email of 28 January 2024 about the reduced speed limit signs for the ongoing work on Ouse Bridge. We understand your concerns and appreciate you taking the time to contact us about the issue.

We can advise that all our traffic management must follow the guidance contained in chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions issued by the Department for Transport, which is used in our detailed planning process. We must also consult with the police about our traffic management, who provide us with independent advice and hold us to account.

We've checked with the Traffic Safety Control Officers who patrol our works regularly and on the 28 and 29 January, all speed restriction signs were in place as per the traffic management plan. The traffic management will continue to be checked on a regular basis and any issues will be rectified as soon as possible.

Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.
